WWII veteran George G. Miller, 88, dies

Longtime Parkville resident George Griffith Miller Sr., a World War II Merchant Marine Veteran and polio and post-polio syndrome survivor, died at Good Samaritan Hospital Oct. 28. He was 88.

Born in Philadelphia in 1919, Miller and his siblings were raised by their father after their mother died. He worked at a series of jobs during the Great Depression to help support the family, developing a great resourcefulness and learning to make the best

Obituary: Joe Verdi

Few communities can claim a business that is as old as Joe Verdi’s barbershop. Generations of Gardenville residents have passed through the doors of the shop at 5439 Belair Rd. Joseph Verderami, the owner, passed away on Oct. 6 at the age of 98.
In 1933 at the age of 24, Verderami opened his first shop on Frankford Avenue. Later, he moved the establishment to its present location on Belair Road. For business purposes he shortened his name to

Obituary: Frances Amenta

Perry Hall Woman’s Club President Frances (Coats) Amenta passed away Oct. 4 at the age of 61, six weeks after being diagnosed with cancer of the gal bladder. A Perry Hall resident for 35 years, Amenta was active with a Taking Pounds Off Sensibly group, bowled every Friday night and golfed every Thursday with leagues. She was also a child care provider for more than 30 years and was an Avon representative – a sign along Belair Road designates the area adopted by “The Avon Lady.” Amenta was born in Baltimore in February 1946 and graduated from Kenwood High School. She was preceded in death by her parents Walter and Lena coats, and is survived by her children Susan and Steven Amenta, and grandson Nicholas. Services were held earlier this week at Schimunek Funeral Home. Interment was at Gardens of Faith Cemetery.

Memorial set for Rose Orbino, 73

Customers and friends of Rose Orbino, a long-time employee of Total Experience Hair Salon in Perry Hall, are invited to a memorial luncheon June 11 to celebrate her life.

The 73-year-old Bel Air resident passed away of a heart attack May 7 at her home.

She had been a shampoo technician at Total Experience for 23 years.
