Women from Christus Victor Lutheran, Hiss United Methodist, St. John’s Lutheran and St. Ursula Catholic churches joined their prayers with women of many faith traditions in 179 countries around the world in the annual World Day of Prayer on Friday, March 7.
This year’s worship service on the theme “God’s Wisdom Provides New Understanding” was written by the women of Guyana. The Reverends Dan and Maria Hammons, pastors of St. John’s, hosted the Parkville service.

An ecumenical committee conducted the Parkville service for the annual World Day of Prayer held at St. John’s Lutheran Church on Friday, March 7.
Serving on the local ecumenical committee were: Jo Ann Velten, Helen Bass and Pam Lehman of Christus Victor; Jean Hicks and Madeline Niner of Hiss; Margaret Logue and (chairlady) Georgia Franz of St. John’s; Virginia Byrne, Dorothy Halpin, Virginia Luckan and Sr. Kathleen White OSB of St. Ursula.
The ladies of Christus Victor presented palm crosses made by their church’s Sunday School students to all who attended. St. John’s ladies provided refreshments following the service.
