Polar fair – The Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Maryland Park Service will host the first-ever Gunpowder Polar Fair, on Saturday, Nov. 3 at North Point State Park in Baltimore County, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. “This event is part of an effort by the park to help people reduce their carbon footprint and live more sustainably,” said Sarah Witcher of Gunpowder State Park. Visitors to the fair will experience informative displays on ways to conserve energy, dynamic presentations about the climate crisis, and enjoy games and interactive activities. Admission is $3 per car and visitors are encouraged to bring friends and family for this fun-filled day in the park. The event will take place rain or shine. Details: 410-592-2897.

Youth skating – Now in its 10th season, the Patterson Park Stars program provides ice hockey for about 60 underprivileged, inner-city children – boys and girls, ages 7-13. No skating experience is needed – all equipment is loaned and children are taught how to play. Breakfast is provided at the rink. The program began Sunday, Oct. 28 and continues for 16 more weeks. Bull & oyster roast – Saturday, Nov.10 at 7 p.m. St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church will sponsor its Fifth Annual Bull and Oyster Roast at the St. Joseph Parish Center, 8420 Belair Rd. Trap, neuter & return – The Maryland SPCA, Maryland Feline Society, Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter, and Alley Cat Allies are developing free community outreach and humane education programs, and will offer low-cost spay/neuter clinics for outdoor stray and feral cats. The workshops will provide information on safe care for outdoor cats and on how to stop the cycle of breeding with Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR). The workshop will address caring for outdoor cats and building inexpensive shelters, and other information. Luncheon – College of Notre Dame of Maryland’s Continuing Education Alumnae Chapter will host its annual fall luncheon on Wednesday, Nov. 14, from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Doyle Formal Lounge.
