Letter: Speak up about school issues, funding

From: Kent Smith
Nottingham

The last Northeast Area Educational Advisory Council
meeting was an example of how well informed and well
spoken our neighbors are about the educational process.
Parents and teachers spoke about the need for dedicated
information technology workers in our schools to work on
the hundreds of machines in our schools, the low pay for
some of the school system’s most important people, and
the level funding that our career and technology programs
have received over the last decade.
As you know, there will be many important decisions
made about education and other programs within the next
year on the state and local level.
There has been talk of cuts to the inflation index in
Thornton, a possible emergence of Thornton’s geographic
cost index, proposals that could affect the state’s funding
of capital projects, and numerous proposals to cut or pay
for these items. These will affect your pocketbooks and the
priorities of our local leaders.
It is important to let your school, legislative, and executive
leaders, and your advisory council members, know
about your priorities.
Kent Smith serves as the secretary for the Northeast
Area Educational Advisory Council.
