Pets on Wheels’ second annual Dog-a-thon will be held Saturday, Sept. 29 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Oregon Ridge Park, 13401 Beaver Dam Rd. Have your pet micro-chipped, try your luck at the agility course (for dogs, not humans), watch a police K-9 demonstration, and participate in trick, costume, and kissing contests – all to fund raise for Pets on Wheels, a non-profit organization that provides friendly visits from volunteers and their pets to people in nursing homes, and facilities for the physically and mentally challenged. Green Mount Cemetery tours – Four guided tours of historic Green Mount Cemetery will be held Saturdays, Oct. 6, 13, 20, and 27. Green Mount is the final resting place of Johns Hopkins, Enoch Pratt, William and Henry Walters, Mary Elizabeth Garrett, Theodore McKeldin, John Wilkes Booth, Betsy Patterson, Walter Lord and other famous Marylanders. Tours begin at 9:30 a.m. from the main gate located at Greenmount Avenue and East Oliver Street. The two-hour tours are led by Baltimore historian and educator Wayne R. Schaumburg. The cost is $15. Volunteers needed – Marshy Point Nature Center, a facility of the Baltimore County Department of Recreation and Parks, is in need of a few good young men and women volunteers. Student volunteers aged 12 to 17 will acquire valuable work skills, gain experience in wildlife and environmental stewardship, and earn service learning credit for their work. World Dance Festival Gala fundraiser – The Krump Kings, featured in the movies “RIZE!” and “Stomp the Yard” will headline the 2007 WDF Gala, Sept. 22, which includes performances of dances from around the globe by world-renowned professional artists The Gala will start at 8 p.m. in the B Building Theatre at CCBC Essex, 7201 Rossville Blvd. Tickets, which are $20 per person, are available through the CCBC Box Office at 410-780-6369.

Soiree fundraiser – The Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation and its Young Professionals Committee present Samaritan Soiree Thursday, Oct. 4 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Baltimore Museum of Industry to benefit children ages 3 months through 4 years through expansion of the Hospital’s Child Development Center. Golf fundraiser a memorial
The 5th Annual Mike Amoss Memorial Golf Tournament will be held Oct. 4 at the Wetlands Golf Course in Aberdeen.

The event will start with registration and a continental breakfast from 7:15 to 8 a.m. Shotgun start will take place at 8 a.m. The fee to enter is $85, and includes golf/cart, continental breakfast, hot dogs at turn, drinks on course and after lunch, prizes, contests, and a silent auction of sports memorabilia.

All proceeds go to the National Kidney Foundation of Maryland in memory of Mike Amoss, the son of co-organizer Ed Amoss. Mike Amoss had kidney disease over a period of years, resulting in his being on dialysis and eventually having a kidney transplant at Johns Hopkins. He died from complications in 2002 at the age of 39. To honor his memory and to help others with kidney disease, the Gardenville Moose Lodge #1242 sponsors this event each year.
